Winter has returned to the Alps — and ski tour operators are slashing prices

After weeks of spring sunshine, winter has returned to the Alps — heralding another fine end to the ski season. If you’ve not been out yet, or craving a second ski trip, now’s the time to grab a bargain.

According to our weather guru, Fraser Wilkin of weathertoski.co.uk, the weather will turn very unsettled this week:  “with the prospect of some more significant snow in places”. We’ve just updated our bargains page with some fantastic offers, so don’t delay! Here’s what some of our contacts have to say about the conditions.

“End of season skiing can always be a bit of a gamble but not this year!” says Moira Clarke from Ski Total and Esprit Ski. “A cold snap at the weekend and another due this weekend, along with a decent spring dusting of snow (10-15cm is predicted) should enhance the slopes and make a late ski break the most enjoyable for many seasons.”

Ski Total have catered chalets with flights from £399pp this weekend departing 29 March, from £449pp for the week of 5 April and from £429pp for the week beginning 12 April.

Meanwhile, Christine Van Zadelhoff from Ski Amis says her chalet manager in La Tania — where you can stay in Chalet Titania over Easter for just £349pp, down from £809 — reports “absolutely brilliant” skiing on the higher slopes in the Three Valleys.

“The pistes in general across the resort in very good condition – on some of the sun facing lower slopes there are a few brown patches showing through but generally good,” says Christine.

Le Ski owner Nick Morgan concurs.

“This season in the French Alps has definitely resembled a marathon, not a sprint! There was a very slow start to the season with low resorts really suffering, an excellent middle section and now there’s a flourish towards the finishing line – if you stay high,” he says.

“We’ve got spaces in catered chalets in Courchevel on 12 April and Val d’Isère on 19 April from £499 with flights. The last few weeks are always great fun so we’ll see you at the tape!”
