Virgin Holidays is offering early bookers the chance to bag a half price lift pass to several of its US winter ski destinations.

WIth lift tickets for North American holidays taking up a huge slice of a trip budget, these savings could be of interest to anyone planning a trip stateside next winter, particularly if you are booking early for low season visits (the offer does not apply to peak dates, only December, January and March travel).

Bookings taken from their new winter 2011/12 brochure before 30 September are eligible for reductions on lift passes in key resorts such as Mammoth, Heavenly, Northstar and Squaw Valley in California, and several resorts on the east coast (eg Stowe).

The price currently offered on a 6 of 8 day ski Lake Tahoe Interchangeable pass is £138 per adult for travel in either of the three months mentioned above (1-16 Dec, 17-31 Jan, 5-30 Mar). This has been knocked down from £276. This pass means that you can use it at other Tahoe resorts too.

New Canadian resort

This is the main deal released with the new brochure, but Virgin has also introduced a new Canadian resort to its collection for the coming season: Sun Peaks. The resort has previously featured as a summer option, but can now be enjoyed in winter too.

An example deal for travel between 1-5th December is a 10-night stay in the 4V Delta Sun Peaks resort, room only from £1,295pp for a standard room; scheduled flights are included with Air Canada.

Bags r us

If you’re pondering over the equipment carriage with Virgin Atlantic airlines: they claim to offer a free carriage on their flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston. IE: the ski bag weight is not included in the free 23kg allowance for a single bag; you can have both.
