Heavenly opens new halfpipe

Skiers and boarders of all levels can enjoy the new 18ft halfpipe in Heavenly
The Californian ski resort of Heavenly has opened its competition-quality halfpipe after a five-year break. It is the only halfpipe on the south shore of Lake Tahoe.
The 18-foot halfpipe and redesigned High Roller terrain park was opened to much fanfare on 19 January with a DJ and professional snowboarders and skiers demonstrating the new facility.
The halfpipe sits inside the High Roller terrain park, which also opened last week for the first time this season, which skiers and snowboarders can access from Heavenly’s Canyon Express Chairlift.
“With Lake Tahoe as a backdrop, this halfpipe will feature, hands-down, the best views from any halfpipe in the US,” said Heavenly’s general manager Pete Sonntag.
Heavenly worked with Snow Park Technologies to create the 18ft-tall and 450ft-long halfpipe has a 16.5º angle slope that is designed to accommodate all levels of ability levels and encourage skiers and snowboarders who want to learn the basics.
It was built in nine days, and designed to melt evenly on both sides. The High Roller terrain park has been re-designed this season to include rails, boxes, jumps, and other fun jib features, both above and below the location of the halfpipe.
