Heavy snow falls across the Alps

The Stubai Glacier will open tomorrow, 25 September, after the recent snow fall
The Stubai Glacier will open tomorrow, 25 September, thanks to fresh snow that has fallen across Europe. This picture was sent to us this morning by the tourist board in Tirol — it’s certainly got the WTSS team salivating….not long now!
Heavy snow was forecast yesterday, and a storm fulfilled the promise, dumping between 20cm and 40cm of snow across the eastern and central Alps, though some places received more than 50cm.
Social media has been awash with “snow party” pictures — click here for our pick of the best.
The Stubai Glacier opens tomorrow, joining Hintertux, Pitztal, Mölltal and Sölden. The glaciers in Saas-Fee and Zermatt are open, and Tignes is expected to crank up its lifts on 3 October.
This winter we will again be working Fraser Wilkin of weathertoski.com to bring you weekly snow reports and updates, which will start soon.
