Heavy snow over the Alps

Val Thorens was rejoicing at the weekend with early September snowfall
Heavy snow has fallen in parts of the Alps over weekend — signalling the end of summer and the imminent return of the ski season.
The snowline was as far down as 1600m in places, with ski resorts rejoicing in the cold snap after a long, hot summer with worrying amounts of melt on glaciers.
The French ski resort of Val Thorens<?a> had a dusting on Saturday, followed by sunshine yesterday. Where to Ski and Snowboard’s snow guru Fraser Wilkin reported on weathertoski.co.uk that the Eastern Alps saw the heaviest snowfall, with up to 50cm in places.
