Skier Isabel Atkin has this afternoon become the first British woman to win a Ski Slopestyle World Cup — at the Swiss ski resort of Corvatsch.

GB Park and Pipe skier Izzy Atkin, 18, put on an unbeatable first run in great conditions, continuing what has been an unprecedented season for British skiers and snowboarders.

“I am absolutely stoked with how I skied today. The weather was perfect and the course was amazing. I couldn’t be happier! I want to say a huge thanks to all the coaches, support staff, GB Park and Pipe and British Ski and Snowboard,” said Izzy after her win.

Atkin’s unbeatable run clocked her an 88.40 and a gold medal —Britain’s first ever Ski Slopestyle World Cup win — ahead of Emma Dahlstrom (Sweden) and Mathilde Gremaud (Switzerland).

Over the 2017/18 ski season, British successes include Dave Ryding’s second place in a World Cup slalom event in Kitzbuehel and James Woods’s gold in the big air at the X Games in Aspen. Paralympic skier Millie Knight and guide Brett Wild won downhill gold on the opening day of the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Italy.

At the beginning of February, Snowsport England announced it was to give more than £1 million of funding to support up-and-coming athletes over the next four years and growing the participation of snowsport in the UK.
