Ischgl has already announced who will play out the season at the legendary open-air concert: Alicia Keys.

Keys is a US pop star, whose album The Elements of Freedom is doing extremely well in the British charts. The young singer will perform on the concert stage at Idalp on Saturday 1 May – the penultimate day of the ski season. As usual, the concert is expected to draw a 20,000 strong boot-stomping crowd to the slopes.

The concert stage is constructed in a natural bowl at the top of the two main gondolas, with the Silvretta mountains forming the backdrop. Entrance is by valid lift pass. Ischgl began the season with another young female singer: Katy Perry, who enjoys a spot of snowboarding too.

And the hip and trendy resort will be gearing up for a bit of an freeride fest on 23 January, for the Frejn’s Freeride Inferno.

The competition attracts snowboarders and other freeriders who fancy launching themselves down a tough off-piste course. It is a bit of a free-for-all, with a mass start that often brings the classic pile-ups before the leaders break away. The Inferno is a mix of boardercross and freeride, providing plenty of fun and challenge. At the end, the race is followed by a classic Ischgl party – open to competitors and spectators.
