The budget regional airline Jet2.com has added extra flights to next winter’s ski programme in response to what it says is “very strong demand”.

After putting its flights for the 2021/22 season on sale just weeks ago, Jet2.com has added more flights from Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and London Stansted to Grenoble, Geneva, Salzberg, Innsbruck and Chambery for the February half-term, as well as extending the ski seasons to some of these destinations with earlier starts and later finishes.

Jet2.com is running seven new ski routes from regional airports around the UK, including to Innsbruck from Bristol and Edinburgh — doubling its capacity to Austria in the process — and Geneva from Newcastle and Glasgow.  It will also fly to Grenoble from Bristol and Salzberg from Bristol and Newcastle.

It’s more positive news for the beleaguered European ski industry, which has suffered heavily due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Last week, the Austrian ski lift operators association said a 90 percent drop in business over the winter of 2020/21 had resulted in combined losses of more than €1billion across Austria’s ski areas. While some resorts, with more local clients, lost less trade, it was the large resorts that rely on international visitors who were hardest hit by the Austrian government’s decision to stop overnight stays across the country last winter.
