Want to learn how to cope face-to-face with nature and survive in the snow for 24 hours, should the worst happen on the mountain? The French ski resort of La Clusaz will later this month play host to the Bear Grylls Survival Academy, which will teach teams of keen snow-lovers a few winter survival techniques.

La Clusaz is the one of Lake Annecy Ski Resorts, just 20 minutes from Annecy with a reputation as a warm and welcoming traditional Savoyard resort lined with cosy bars and cafes, but participants in the Bear Grylls camp will be unlikely to see any of that.

Though ‘the world’s most recognisable face of survival and outdoor adventure’ (according to his website) might not actually be in situ himself, Bear’s staff will teach a fearless few how to build snow shelters to survive 24 hours in the mountains, how to track animals, build fires without matches, find food, tricks of night vision and how to cross inhospitable terrain.

The courses run 30-31 January, 13-14 February and 27-28 March, and costs €310pp. For more information, visit beargryllssurvivalacademy.com
