‘It’s more wintry than usual for the time of year,’ said a spokesman for the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, above Kaprun. So, the ski area’s season-opener event really will be a ‘white start’.

Kaprun’s ski area will open for the season this weekend, 6 November, with its classic ski testing and party event: ‘White Start’. It has, of course, been open for upper glacier skiing recently; but the terrain now extends to the Alpincentre (mid-station). The slopes are in great shape for it too, following the recent metre dump.

As well as the free ski and board testing, visitors can try out the latest headcam technology, get technique tips from the instructors and slide by for a massage before limbering up for the big O3 disco night in the village.

The Kitzbüheler Alpen AllStarCard will also be valid on the Kitzsteinhorn from 6 November, which covers ten ski resorts in the Kitzbüheler Alpen – although it’s far too early to be making much use of it just yet!  What you can make use of though, is the big new spa attraction. The Tauern Hotel and Spa centre opens in November (8th) – ultra-modern 4-star lodging, with a sizeable wellness facility of indoor and outdoor pools, children’s areas and body treatments. Three day special offer packages are available.
