The legendary “La Folie Douce” opens its fourth venue in the French Alps this weekend — in Alpe d’Huez in the Grandes Rousses mountains.

La Folie Douce has its own special brand of après-ski — open-air clubbing with the resident DJ, and a series of different cabaret acts. The chain — famed for its bars in Val d’Isère, Val Thorens and Méribel — will also bring its gourmet cuisine to Alpe d’Huez with two restaurants, La Fruitière and Le Nuvo.

On the Plat des Marmottes, La Folie Douce Alpe d’Huez and its south-facing bar and terrace will be accessible to both pedestrians and skiers. It can be reached by the Marmottes 1 high-speed chairlift which has links to the resorts of Oz en Oisans, Auris, Vaujany and Villard Reculas.

combination of beautiful scenery plus guaranteed snow and sunshine has always made the resort a great place to holiday. We believe we’ve created the perfect spot in Alpe d’Huez to refuel over a sumptuous lunch, enjoy a drink on the terrace with friends, take in the stunning views and celebrate a great day’s skiing with the best music in town.”

Jean Baptiste Gravier, manager of the new Alpe d’Huez property, added: “As our magic has spread across the French Alps, La Folie Douce has become synonymous with the ultimate in après-ski fun. We’re therefore delighted to be bringing La Folie Douce’s own touch of ‘sweet madness’ to one of Europe’s best loved resorts.”

The chain has plans to open La Folie Douce venues in Megève and Andorra.

Web editor Abi Butcher will be out in Alpe d’Huez for the opening party on Saturday, 14 December, so stay tuned for a review!
