The Winter Urban festival returns to La Plagne this April, for a week-long event of ski testing, competitions, mountain film festival and various concerts and parties.

The action packed week takes place after Easter weekend, from 9 to 15 April. In its fifth season, it promises to deliver plenty of entertainment on and off the piste. The event combines a week of viewing mountain films for free and professional riders composing their own short films – with a hope of winning a 10,000 euro top prize.

Members of the public can watch the films for free, as well as the demonstrations in the parks and pipes. But for a little more action, why not get involved in some ski testing for next winter. The latest ski and board models will be on test from on 13-15 April and available to try for free (for an hour and a half) – if you haven’t tried the new rocker technology, it’s worth a go. You’ll find them at the top of the Roche de Mio gondola.

Pro-riders will be given four days to shoot some of their best tricks and moves, edit and create a short film as part of a team. Each team has a mentor from the film industry to assist them. Régis Warnier, member of the French Académie and film director of Oscar winning productions, will then head up the judging panel along with four other personalities from the world of winter sports and cinema.

Mountain films will have a screening up at Belle Plagne, from 6pm until 9pm every evening.

Urban Park also has a summer variant that takes place in the resort in August – and includes downhill mountain biking instead of skiing!
