Yesterday was described as the powder day of the season. Resorts all over the Alps have been recording up to 100cm of new snow. Alpe d’Huez is currently enjoying an upper snow depth of 420cm and La Thuile in Italy has amazing upper snow depths of 300cm!

The deepest snow is currently to be found in the southern French Alps and western Italian Alps, though Austria and Switzerland have been hammered, too. The temperatures remain cool, and the weather unsettled, so with more snow moving in conditions are likely to be perfect for days to come.

The X-Games, currently being held in Tignes, has been postponed because of a storm passing through the resort — the women’s slopestyle event has been re-scheduled to tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.

With Easter coming up, the monster snowfalls have will have prepared the pistes perfectly for a ski break — and WTSS has found some great deals if you’re planning a last-minute holiday to make the most of the snow.

Peak Retreats are offering a week in Alpe d’Huez for £183 including Eurotunnel crossing, Ski Total has a chalet in St Anton for £519pp including all meals, wine and travel, Erna Low has accommodation in Morzine for £247pp including Eurotunnel and Thomson is offering a week in a chalet in Serre Chevalier (where 1.25m of snow has fallen in 36 hours) for £529pp including all meals and transport. In La Tania, Ski Amis is offering the premium service Chalet Balkiss for £299pp including 10% off Three Valley ski passes.
