Easter is late again this season (Easter Sunday is 12 April).  But there’s no need to be put off going skiing then – please don’t think it is too late for good snow, provided you choose the right resort.

I love skiing in late March and April. The sun is strong, the pistes are quiet and if you choose the right resort with lots of high-altitude skiing, the snow is usually good until the end of the season. I’ve had great powder in April too – though you have to be quick to catch it in pristine condition.

More normal is a freeze-thaw cycle where pistes (and off-piste) are frozen hard first thing and then gradually thaw as the sun hits them. Catch the slopes at the right time and you can have great skiing on sugary spring snow.

Ski Amis is a family-run brand that has been going for 30 years and has some very comfortable chalets, many with outdoor hot tubs and saunas. We’ve stayed very happily with them several times.

For 2020, Skis Amis has some great late-season deals, including for Easter, in ski areas which usually have good late snow.

Les Menuires has direct access to the high north-facing slopes of La Masse (just over 2800m) and easy access to Val Thorens’ extensive and high (up to 3200m) north-facing slopes.

Ski Amis is offering Chalets de Bruyeres in Les Menuires at 20% off for the week beginning 11 April (Easter Saturday) – from £415.20 per person

Peisey-Vallandry is on the edge of the Les Arcs ski area which has lots of skiing above 2000m and reaches 3225m at the Aiguille Rouge. It is also right by the double-decker Vanoise Express cable car which whisks you over the 2km valley to the La Plagne ski area for added variety.

Ski Amis is offering “premium service” Chalet Sermoz in Peisey-Vallandry at 20% off for the week beginning 11 April (Easter Saturday) – from £535.20 per person

La Plagne has lots of high altitude skiing between 2000m and 2700m plus the Bellecôte glacier which reaches 3250m.

Ski Amis is offering “premium service” Chalet Nadine in La Plagne (Montchavin)  at 20% off for the week beginning 11 April (Easter Saturday) – from £415.20 per person. The chalet is very close to the double-decker Vanoise Express cable car which whisks you over the 2km valley to the Les Arcs ski area for added variety.

For all three of these resorts, Ski Amis’ chalets operate up to the last week of the season – the week beginning 18 April.

La Tania closes a week earlier and the last week begins on 11 April (Easter Saturday). It has easy access to Courchevel’s high (up to 2740m) slopes which include plenty of shady north-facing ones. You can also head for Les Menuires or Val Thorens, maybe taking in the lovely long north-facing runs at Mont du Vallon (2950m) on the way.

Ski Amis is offering Chalet Titania in La Tania at 20% off for the week beginning 4 April – from £519.20 per person
