Les Arcs ready for film fest

Les Arcs (Leontif / Les Arcs)
Les Arcs will stage its first European Film Festival from 5 to 12 December and, snow permitting, the ski area will open then too – at least two weeks earlier than usual.
Movie buffs will be in their element when Les Arcs starts the new season: Eight giant cinema screens will show over 50 feature films during the week. These will include at least four major European premiers and short works by young producers from various film schools. And the festival is going to be popular: around 400 guests from the world of cinema will be attending: including actors, directors, producers and journalists.
It should be a cracking event. And there is plenty of other entertainment lined up for visitors during the week too, all celebrating European culture.
The Film Festival Special Offer is available for three-night stays: just 11 euros per person, per day (based on four sharing an apartment). Other special rates are also available.
Les Arcs enjoys slopes up to 3200m, so you should be assured of some good early-season skiing if you fancy a December break.

Off screen
If you can’t make the movies, Paradiski has plenty lined-up for the new season. Some of the key events are back this year, such as the 2010 Les Arcs Speed Flying Pro – which takes place between 25 and 29 January. Watch the professionals hurl themselves down the resort’s black slopes above Arc 2000 attached to a kite. For the adventurous on La Plagne’s slopes, the Gordzerette in Champagny en Vanoise is open to all who fancy a spot of ice climbing and hay sled racing – among other attractions. It runs from 29 to 31 January.
Freebies on opening day
If you are going to Paradiski for the full opening day on 19 December, there will be free access to the other resort on opening day with a local area lift pass. What’s more, they tell us that there will be entertainment and free food tasting on the slopes.
