Lots of new developments in 3 Valleys and Paradiski for 2019/20

Courchevel and the rest of the 3 Valleys has even more improvements this year
Tour operator Ski Amis has great-value catered chalets in La Tania and Les Menuires in the Three Valleys ski area and in La Plagne and Les Arcs in the Paradiski area. Both these giant French ski areas have lots of new developments for the 2019/20 winter season.
Les Menuires has introduced several new activities. You can ride up the mountain in a snow grooming machine after the lifts close, enjoy the sunset and a fondue or grilled prime rib meal before riding back to the resort by starlight.
There’s also the chance to give ski touring under the stars a go, under the supervision of the ESF. You climb on skins 272m vertical to the Refuge du Lac du Lou and enjoy drinks and a hearty mountain meal before skiing back on a groomed run.
Also new for 2019/20 are courses to learn to fly a drone. Other unusual activities include riding an all-terrain electric snow scooter (only available at three resorts in the whole of France) and finding your way out of a snow maze carved out of ice with walls two metres high.
In nearby Val Thorens there’s a new snowcross course.
Ski Amis also has chalets in La Tania between Courchevel and Méribel.
In Courchevel there’s a new gondola from Le Praz to 1850 and a new chairlift from near the aquatic centre to 1850 and a new blue piste down. There are also avalanche controlled ungroomed runs served by a new draglift at Les Creux Noirs. Read about all these here.
In Méribel two new red runs have been created in the Roc de Fer area, which previously had just a black and a blue run.
If you fancy exploring the new Courchevel and Méribel developments over Christmas Skis Amis has a special offer of 30% off for its Chalet Elliot in La Tania – so the cost will be from just £619 for the week beginning 21 December more details here.

Over in the Paradiski area, In Les Arcs the funicular from Bourg St Maurice to Arc 1600 has been completely renovated and there are two new ski passes which give priority access to some queue-prone lifts and include some après-ski activities. Plus the latest branch of the Folie Douce après-ski chain will open in Arc 1800.
La Plagne has created a new family-friendly fun slope and will be offering Snooc (a ski/sled hybrid) rides after the slopes close supervised by the Montalbert ESF. A free course for teenagers to learn freestyle skiing (which will include piste safety) is being set up and led by a double Olympic freestyle medallist. And a ski sophology course (which you have to pay for) is being set up ‘for the mindful generation’ which has a fresh approach to skiing that is more conscious of nature, the elements and oneself.
Ski Amis has a Christmas week special offer of almost 50% off for its Chalet Nadine in the Montchavin part of La Plagne (handy for the Vanoise Express cable car over to Les Arcs) – so the cost will be from just £379 for the week beginning 21 December — (more details here)
