It’s official … the season is about to begin in Colorado! Check out these deliciously white pictures from Arapahoe Basin.

Arapahoe Basin will see its earliest ever start to the ski season when it fires up the lifts on Friday 9 October. What’s more, the resort will open with more snow on the ground than last year – the fresh stuff has been falling in parts of North America recently too and the snow guns are going at full pelt to keep it topped up. So far, one run (High Noon) and a terrain park have been prepared.

But the first resort to open in North America will be Loveland - just east of the Continental Divide and close to the I70 highway - which wins the race by a whisker and expects to get going today (Wednesday 7 October). That’s earlier than last season too …

“We took advantage of the cold temperatures and got an early start making snow this year.  Those extra days paid off and we are opening a week earlier than last season,” said Snowmaking and Trail Maintenance Manager, Eric Johnstone.

Both resorts are reporting a 45cm snow base in the prepared areas – not bad for October. And snow showers are forecast for the rest of this week.

Rock on Colorado!
