Canada has taken its 13th gold medal of the Vancouver Games, with a win in snowboarding giant slalom.

While fog hampered efforts in the Whistler slalom, over on Cypress Mountain the rain was bucketing down for the men’s snowboard parallel giant slalom races. There was plenty of action, though, as the men carved up the mountain in the various play-off rounds.

But it was Canada’s Jasey Jay Anderson who rode to gold, in his last Olympic Games. The 34-year-old was trailing World Champion Benjamin Karl by 0.76 seconds, but came through to clinch the title as Karl slipped towards the end. France’s Mathieu Bozzetto took bronze – a controversial result following a starting gate malfunction, leaving Russian Stanislav Detkov with a delay to get out.
