A new season ticket for Swiss ski resorts over the 2017/18 is on sale offering incredible value to skiers and snowboarders — but you need to buy it quick.

The “Magic Pass” was launched on 11 April and offers free, unrestricted access to 25 ski resorts from 1 November 2017 to 30 April 2018 in the cantons of Valais, Vaud, Friborg, Neuchâtel and Bern. These include Villars, Zinal, Grimentz and Crans-Montana.

There are a limited number of passes available at the current promotional rate of CHF359 (around £280) for an adult or CHF249 (around £195) for a child. There is an option to buy a glacier “top up” for an additional CHF100 for children and CHF200 for adults. The rate is around the cost of just a few days’ skiing in even the smallest of the ski resorts included.

Once the current wave of Magic Passes are sold, the next batch will be released at a higher (as yet undisclosed price). “Shelf” prices for the pass, at which it will eventually be sold, after 30 September 2017, are CHF1299.00 (just over £1,000) for adults and CHF799 (£630) for children.

The cooperation of ski resorts had no idea how much demand there would be for the Magic Pass — when the website first went live on 11 April it was jammed with traffic. The ski resorts said the aim is to “make the mountains more accessible to everyone”.
