It might seem unbelievable to us, basking in an Alpine heatwave, but in California they are declaring an end to a three-year drought!

Mammoth Mountain’s recent heavy snowfall has prompted the resort to announce a confident 4 July finish. While that is not exactly unusual for the area (four out of the last seven seasons), they have been reportedly in a snow drought since 2008. Their definition of a drought means pretty decent snow to us, usually of course.

But then Mammoth has exceeded 600 inches of snow this winter - 157% of its seasonal average to date and the most snow in a single season. So, they’re hoping for a great Independence Day holiday finish. Connecting flights operate from San Francisco and Los Angeles until 24 April, and from Los Angeles daily after that.
