The Canadian ski area of Marmot Basin will open a new area with advanced terrain this winter — with one run offering Marmot’s longest uninterrupted fall line. The large, north-facing area known as “Tres Hombres” is 18 hectares of off-piste terrain that includes powder bowls and chutes.

Tres Hombres is a treeless area, which has five runs and 367m of vertical, with a run length of 700m. Marmot says it will open for the season “once all the required fencing and gates are in place and the area deemed safe to ski by the Marmot Basin avalanche control and safety team”.

Marmot Basin, near Jasper in the Canadian Rockies, opened for the 2017-18 season last Friday, 10 November. It has the highest ski area base in Canada at 1,698m, with a ski area that extends to 2,612m. Before the introduction of Tres Hombres, Marmot Basin’s 86 runs were split 60 per cent for novice and intermediates and 40 per cent for advanced and expert skiers — so the opening of this new terrain will be welcome news to expert skiers and snowboarders.
