A film of the life of pioneering ski-BASE jumper and freeskier Shane McConkey opened last night in London.

The feature-length documentary is an Art of Life-style look at on one of action sports’ most talented, influential and entertaining figures, Shane McConkey, who died in 2009. The film, which was screened at this year’s Tribeca film festival, features incredible action footage and Shane’s home videos, interviews with friends an family and offers an intimate portrait of the athlete’s personal life.

The film was shown at the Prince Charles cinema in Leicester Square to an audience of skiers and boarders, including top British skier Chemmy Alcott who said Shane McConkey was “someone who followed his passion to the end”.

Norwegian skier and BASE jumper Karina Hollekim added: “What’s special about this movie for someone who’s not into action sports at all, is just seeing the love, the affection and the passion for life.

“To find something that makes you happy, something that makes you want to get up every morning and attack life with a huge smile.”
