Méribel is giving away 100 lift passes and 400 free breakfasts on Saturday, 7 December, to celebrate the opening day of the ski season.

The first 100 skiers and snowboarders to show up at the reception of the tourist office of Méribel-Mottaret will be given a Méribel Vallée pass, worth €47.50 (nearly £40, using today’s exchange rate of €1.19 to £1), plus a free breakfast. The following 300 people to arrive will also be given a free breakfast, starting at 8:30am.

Méribel is not the only resort to open in Les 3 Vallées this weekend. Courchevel also opens its lifts for the season on Saturday — though Val Thorens, the highest resort in the Alps, opened last weekend.

In the evening, Méribel is organising a launch party in Le Club des Saint-Pères (Olympic Park, Méribel Centre) in partnership with La Folie Douce. Though it’s going to be a late one — doors don’t even open until midnight, so be prepared for a long day!

Until 13 December, Méribel Vallée ski passes will cost just €38 (£31.70).
