Monterosa to open Saturday

2nd December 2009, by Chris Gill

Just a few days ago green fields were beckoning hiking, not skiing … and Monterosa put opening day on hold. But the Italian slopes were revived for winter by this week’s snowfall. It now appears that the resort can open part of the ski area after all, and only a week later than planned. Good news!

The tourist office has provided the latest list of expected lifts / slopes to open from Saturday 5 December:

CHAMPOLUC

Lifts opening: Champoluc – Crest gondola; Fontaney 1 Conveyor Belt; Fontaney 2 Conveyor Belt; Crest – Alpe Ostafa 3 gondola; Alpe Ostafa – Colle Sarezza chairlift; Lago Ciarcerio – Alpe Belvedere chairlift (just the Belvedere side); Alpe Mandria chairlift – link coming over to Frachey from Gressoney; Bettaforca chairlift

Slopes opening: Crest school area, Ostafa 1, Sarezza, Sarezza – Contenery, Belvedere
Liaison – Gressoney / Frachey, Del Colle – Gressoney / Frachey, Dei Larici – Gressoney / Frachey

What you can’t do …

The connection between Champoluc and Frachey will be closed. Skiers coming from Champoluc have to go back to Belvedere. You can’t ski down to Frachey.
The new lift in Frachey isn’t ready to open yet, so you can’t reach the slopes from Frachey village. And the ticket office there will be closed for now.

GRESSONEY-LA-TRINITE

Lifts opening: Stafal – Gabiet gondola; Gabiet – Lago chairlift; Gabiet – Passo dei Salati gondola; Stafal – Sant’Anna cableway; Sant’Anna – Colle Betta chairlift

Slopes opening: Salati, Gabiet – Lago, Pistone Betta

The Salati and Bettaforca links will be open, for getting between Gressoney and Frachey.

ALAGNA

Lifts opening: Alagna – Pianalunga gondola; Pianalunga – Bocchetta chairlift; Pianalunga – Cimalegna – Salati cableway

Slopes opening: Mullero and Olen
