It has snowed again in the Alps, and more ski resorts are beginning to open!

Skiers enjoyed fantastic conditions in Cervinia, Italy last weekend, with 120cm of snow on the 3,500m Plateau Rosà glacier on Saturday and Sunday. The lifts will open again next weekend in advance of the season starting in earnest on 31 October.

Les 2 Alpes becomes the second ski resort in France (after Tignes) to open this Saturday, 24 October. It will remain open for a week until Sunday 1 November, with two equipment testing event over the next two weekends.

This weekend, a snowboard event will feature brands including Oakley, Burton, DC Shoes to Volcom, Electric and Nitro Snowboard are taking part in the resort’s “Enjoy the Glacier” event which offers 200 types of snowboard to test, 150 types of boots as well as goggles and sunglasses, plus snowboard and skate board contests, concerts, exhibitions and films.

The following weekend skiers and snowboarders can enjoy free lessons with the ESF, freestyle and freeride workshops as part of the new Decathlon High test event, with equipment on test from Atomic, Head, Rossignol, Salomon and Wed’ze.

Lift passes in Les 2 Alpes cost €23.50 (£17.20) per day on 24 and 25 October, and €28.50 (£20.80) per day from 26 October to 1 November. In Cervinia, an international day pass, allowing access to Zermatt, costs €53 (£39) for adults.

There 13 glacier ski areas open in the Alps now, including Senales and Passo Stelvio in Italy, Saas-Fee, Zermatt and Diavolezza in Switzerland and Stubai, Mölltal, Sölden, Hintertux, Pitztal, Kaunertal, and Kitzsteinhorn (Kaprun) in Austria.
