More US resorts join up ski passes

Sun Valley ski resort in Idaho is now included on the Mountain Collective

More ski resorts in North America have teamed up on collaborative season ski passes for next winter.

Sun Valley in Idaho has joined the Mountain Collective and the Tahoe Local Pass will include skiing in Utah and Colorado for the 2015-16 season.

Sun Valley was America’s first purpose-built luxury ski resort and has 2,000 acres of skiing on two mountains. It will now be accessible next winter as part of the US$369 (currently about £245) Mountain Collective pass, along with AltaSnowbird, Aspen Snowmass, Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine Village, Jackson Hole, Mammoth Mountain, Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows and Whistler Blackcomb.

Pass-holders get two days’ skiing at each of the eight destinations, plus a further 50 per cent discount on all additional days with no blackout dates. Children aged 12 and under can buy the pass for just $99 for the 2015-16 season. Skiers can buy in advance this spring, with the bonus addition of two days in Valle Nevado in Chile.

In California, the Tahoe Local Pass — at $429 (about £285) for the season in Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood — will next winter include five days’ skiing from a choice of Colorado’s resorts of Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin as well as Utah’s Park City. The pass will be available to buy from 10 March — but the additional days in Colorado and Utah is restricted to non-holiday periods.

The Tahoe Local Pass is offered by Vail Resorts (which also offer the Epic Pass), and entitles holders to extra promotions on accommodation, dining, ski rentals, equipment, ski school and special events for the 2015-16 ski and snowboard season.
