Crank up the base, dig out the 80’s clobber and be prepared for a week of festival activity in the Portes du Soleil in April. Morzine is about to hold it’s first music and snow-sport festival.

The Basscamp Electronic Music and Snowsports festival takes place in the French resort between 2 and 6 April 2012. It is the first year for the event, which by day also includes skiing and boarding action around the parks and pipes. By night, Morzine’s main après-ski venues will open up to top DJ’s and dancing. But the highlight of the festival is the street party.

A mega street party is planned for the final day of the festival, and it’s themed … the 80’s. So, all that retro gear and cheesy pop songs will be revived for the entertainment. And if you have not got that archive of bold ski suits tucked up in the loft, there’s a company ready and waiting to rent you the goods. Retro-rentals.eu specialises in renting out historic ski gear, whether it’s the bold all-in-one or C&A style bright jacket and salopettes [yes, your ed has these in her loft! Eek]

If the location is right, Retro-rentals will deliver and pick-up from your chalet (saves the embarrassment of walking through town when not at a specified event, I guess!).

There is a wide choice of accommodation for the event, which includes chalets and apartments. Prices start at 95 euros per person self-catering (based on four sharing) or 380 euros per person in a fully catered chalet.

A festival wristband is 100 euros for the five days, and includes entry to all the main events and ‘Mountain Madness’ competitions.

Much of the slope-side après-ski action will revolve around the Tremplin bar, at the foot of the Pleney gondola, but check out the Basscamp website for more venues.

And, don’t forget, the Portes du Soleil ‘Rock des Pistes’ concerts take place all around the circuit this weekend: 24-28 March.
