The French ski resort of Morzine is getting in on the early-bird 2020-21 season pass act and offering 5,000 season ski passes for Les Portes du Soleil for just €499 (currently around £435 and half the price of a normal season pass).

The offer price is exactly half the cost of a full season pass for next winter (€999) and the equivalent of an 11-day Portes du Soleil ski pass. The limited number will go on sale from 30 March at morzine.ski — and when they’re gone, they’re gone. The Portes du Soleil offers around 600km of pistes across a number of resorts including Les Gets, Châtel and Montriond - as well as the bigger hubs of Morzine and Avoriaz.

It’s the first time Morzine and the Portes du Soleil has offered a discounted pass — though Morzine-Avoriaz spokesman Sara Burdon told WTSS that the area trialled early booking prices for the first time on ski passes purchased last autumn.

“The best rate was a discount of around 20%,” she said, adding that the 5,000 special-price passes “are available to anyone, any nationality. It’s simply a case of first come first served!”

“We usually sell around 17,000 season passes per year,” said Sara, “but we are of course hoping that this offer will make the pass affordable to more people, meaning more skiers can benefit from the amazing Portes du Soleil ski area.”

The Magic Pass in Switzerland is currently on sale for CHF399, offering access to resorts including Crans-Montana, Saas-Fee and those in Val d’Anniviers. The price will go up on 8 April, and incrementally after that.
