Lindarets becomes heavily congested with traffic in summertime

The French ski resort of Morzine will open its Ardent gondola this summer as an experiment to reduce traffic up the Route de la Joux Verte and congestion in the hamlet of Lindarets.

The Ardent gondola will be open every day from 12 July to 28 August between the hours of 0930 and 1645. It will be accessible to pedestrians, hikers and mountain bikers and accessible to holders of the multi-pass or Portes du Soleil or Avoriaz passes.

The gondola takes skiers or summer walkers and bikers from Ardent up to Lindarets and then on to the Lécherette plateau — where the rest of the lift network can be accessed.

Previously, mountain bikers and hikers wishing to use Morzine’s summer lift network have driven to Lindarets, nicknamed the “goat village”, but now there is free parking at the Ardent base station and a free bus service from Morzine and Montriond.

The opening has been discussed for some time and locals have greeted the news with great enthusiasm.
