Jet2 has started a new flight from London Stansted to Lleida airport in Catalonia, offering a faster route in to the Lleida Pyrenees and in particular the Spanish ski resort of Baqueria Beret.

The flight launched on 23 December, and will run every Sunday during the ski season until 14 April, with prices advertised as starting from £29 for one way.

Until now, the fastest way for Brits to reach Baqueria Beret was via Lourdes/Tarbes or Toulouse airports in France, 136km and 166km from the Spanish ski resort respectively — with Barcelona more than 280km away, which meant a transfer of three and a half hours. Lleida airport is 160km from Baqueria Beret and a two-and-a-half-hour transfer.

Lleida airport is situated in Catalonia, between Andorra and the French border, with eleven ski resorts close by that are well established on their domestic markets but lesser known internationally — with nearly 500 km of slopes and 78 ski lifts between them. Baqueira Beret is the only ski resort in Spain on the northern slope of the Pyrenees, is also home to Boí Taüll (2,751m), and the highest slopes in the Pyrenees.
