New flights to Jackson & Mammoth

British skiers can now fly to Jackson directly from Chicago

Two ski resorts in the US have new direct routes from major hubs used by Brits during the ski season. Jackson Hole in Wyoming has a new route from Chicago and Mammoth Mountain in California has a direct flight in from Denver.

The American Airlines flight on Saturdays from Chicago connects with UK flights to deliver skiers to the cult resort of Jackson Hole, with only a 30-minute transfer to resort. Previously, British skiers had to make two stops, unless flying via Dallas or Minneapolis.

Mammoth Mountain in California now has a direct flight with United from Denver, as well as one from Las Vegas that benefits US skiers — and Mammoth has also just announced the acquisition of the Big Bear Mountain Resorts in Big Bear Lake.

Mammoth, which already owns June Mountain in Northern California, has bought Bear Mountain and Snow Summit in for $38 million (£23.4m), with it creating another large US ski company and a new “Cali4nia Pass,” offering unlimited skiing at all four resorts. Combined, the resorts offer nearly 6,000 acres terrain with 240 runs, 61 lifts and 8,319 feet of vertical – with the Cali4nia Pass is currently on sale for $689 (£424).

Chairman and CEO of Mammoth Mountain Rusty Gregory said: “This acquisition represents the beginning of a renaissance for both Mammoth and Big Bear and is the first step in the next era of skiing and riding in California.

“In the coming months we will be announcing exciting new development and expansion plans for each of our four resorts designed to attract visitors from down the street, across the country, and around the world.”

Mammoth Mountain opens to skiers and boarders on 13 November and Jackson Hole on 27 November.
