The Montafon valley in Austria is preparing to unveil a brand new gondola in place of the 40-year-old Valisera Bahn which did its last laps in February 2021.

The Silvretta Montafon ski area, together with owner Bank for Tyrol and Voralberg (BTV) has invested €70million to upgrade the gondola as well as the base just outside St Gallenkirch and the top station on the Valisera.

The new lift, which is scheduled to open in December, will be a new D-Line from Dopplemayr. It is automated and has ten-seater cabins with heated seats, and will travel at 6.5 metres per second, transporting 3,500 skiers per hour — a significant uptick on the old lift.

The new 4,000sqm base station — a bus ride from the centre of St Gallenkirch — is being dubbed the “Silvretta Park” (see architect’s render, below). The station will incorporate a number of other facilities including the largest e-charging garage in Vorarlberg, mountain railway ticket offices, Intersport shop, ski school centre, catering options and a new fitness centre incorporated within the first Revier hotel in Austria.

The Revier Hotel Montafon will have 107 rooms in different categories with 256 beds, and along with the fitness centre will offer co-working spaces, a bar and restaurant with open kitchen.
