A new gondola opens in Plagne Montalbert this winter, replacing two chair lifts and shaving nearly 40 minutes from the journey time up Le Fornelet, part of the La Plagne / Paradiski ski area.

The new Montalbert gondola, which takes 10 people per cabin, replaces the Montalbert and Fornelet chairs. Some 30,000 tonnes of earth have been shifted to make way for the new lift that will start from the left of the old Grangettes drag — a lift that is also being replaced.

Taking the Montalbert and Fornelet chairlifts could involve a journey time of 45 minutes, but the new gondola will reduce the journey time to just six minutes.

The base stations have now been built and pylons have been put in place for the new Montalbert lift, on which testing will begin in October in advance of the start of this 2015/16 ski season on 19 December.
