Work has begun on the installation of a high-speed eight-seater chairlift in the centre of the Austrian ski resort of Schladming. The new chair will replace the 26-year-old four-seater Lärchkogelbahn chairlift at the heart of the Planai ski area, ahead of the 2020/21 ski season.

The Lärchkogelbahn is one of the busiest lifts in the four-mountain ski area that encompasses Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. The new detachable eight seater, made by Leitner Ropeways, will have weather-protection bubbles and heated seats to make for a more comfy journey.

Capacity on the lift will be increased from 2,030 skiers and snowboarders per hour to 3,500 — lessening queues at a busy intersection between Kraiterabfahrt and Lärchkogelabfahrt. The journey time will be just three minutes and 43 seconds.
