Family-friendly Villars will have a new chairlift this winter, along with improved beginner areas up the mountain and a chance for adults to save on their lift passes.

A six-pack will replace the slow double chair on Petit Chamossaire that has been long overdue an upgrade. It will service the smaller of the two Chamossaire peaks above Bretaye, the main hub of slopes above the resort. And fans of boarder or skier cross will be able to check out the new course on neighbouring Grand Chamossaire. Beginners will also get improved slopes at Bretaye and Les Chaux (a quieter area above Gryon).

With the Swiss franc making holidays to the country’s resorts rather pricey, Villars has also introduced an offer to adults buying their lift passes online; those that do can benefit from a 30% discount from Monday to Friday and 15% at the weekend, for a full day or half day as required.

In addition to the on-slope improvements for 2012, Villar’s reknowned dining spot the Alpe Fleurie restaurant – frequented by the likes of Roger Moore (aka James Bond) – is due to reopen in December. The restaurant/bar/hotel is in central Villars is under new management, and will offer a family gourmet experience. There will also be a traditional and kids’ menu for the fondue fans.
