The southern French resort of Isola 2000 has a smart new six-pack this winter.

The resort, which made the headlines with its huge snowfalls last winter, has benefitted from investment by the Alpes-Maritime council to upgrade old lifts.

The Valette six-pack is 1095m long, rising 500 vertical metres and with a passenger capacity of more than 3000 per hour – so it should help to eliminate any peak time crowding in the central part of the ski area. It serves the section between the two main mountains, starting from a point outside the resort base at Méné. Red and blue runs return to the lift valley station.

Isola is easily reached from Nice airport and offers 120km of slopes. An unusual event for January is the Andros Trophy (8/9 Jan) – petrol heads spinning their cars around an ice-driving circuit in a fast and furious competition.
