A new, shared transfer service launches next week in Méribel, to combat the lack of public transport to the 3 Vallées resort for Eurostar travellers.

The Eurostar ski train arrives in Moutiers every Saturday evening at 18:12. Last season, the last public bus bound for Méribel departed the station 13 minutes before the train arrived, leaving independent travellers with a taxi bill of around €65 (around £53) for a 20-minute journey.

The new minibus service is aimed at solo travellers and couples, who can travel from Moutiers train station to anywhere in the Méribel valley for just €20 (around £16) each way.

“It was bizarre that the last public transport Saturday bus would depart for Méribel before the Eurostar Ski Train arrived with hundreds of skiers and snowboarders,” said Daniel Elkan, found of rail-ski website Snowcarbon, which has set up the transfer service together with Three Vallee Transfers and the 3 Vallées Association.

Users of the new service, operated by Three Vallee Transfers, will be greeted at Moutiers by an English-speaking driver, and returned to the train on the following Saturday.

Méribel resort director Christophe Gernigon welcomed the new service, adding: “these shared transfers will help us encourage more skiers to travel from the UK to Méribel by train — it is one of the most convenient ways to reach the resort.”
