A new overnight route to ski resorts in the Austrian Tirol has opened up a new way of travelling to the Alps this winter.

The route is not one of the most direct ways of getting to the Tirol, but it will be an adventure — as well as a carbon-friendly option. The journey involves a combination of a lunchtime or afternoon Eurostar from London to Brussels, a Thalys or ICE train from Brussels to Cologne, followed by an overnight sleeper train with NightJet that will bring skiers into the heart of the Tirol at 8:30am the following morning.

The service will run every day, and because the train is overnight, skiers can get a full day on the slopes on the day of arrival. Similarly, because the return journey leaves Austria in the evening (arriving London the following lunchtime) it gives skiers and snowboarders the chance for a full day on the slopes at the end of their holiday.

The dedicated ski train website snowcarbon.co.uk has full details of the route, timetable and transfer options from Wörgl, Jenbach and Innsbruck, where the trains stop.
