Telegraph buys Ski and Snowboard Show
The Telegraph Media Group has bought a majority share in the Ski and Snowboard Show
The London Ski and Snowboard Show, and the Ski & Snowboard magazine (formerly Daily Mail Ski Magazine) have been bought by the Telegraph Media Group.
The Telegraph Media Group has bought a majority share in VOS Media, the company that currently runs the Ski and Snowboard Show in Earls Court, as well as The Outdoors Show, The London Bike Show, The Active Travel Show, and the Vitality Show.
The London Ski and Snowboard Show last year reversed a two-year decline in visitor numbers, helped in part by its move to half-term week. Some 34,672 visitors went to the show in 2012 — compared to 31,000 in 2011 and 33,000 in 2010.
At a time of tough market conditions for the UK ski industry and specialist events, two of the UK’s three ski shows have undergone major change in the past month. In January, InTheSnow magazine announced it was launching a new show — InTheSnow Live — in the place of the British Ski and Snowboard held every October at the NEC in Birmingham.
Despite the 12 per cent increase in visitor numbers last year, the London Ski and Snowboard show was hit by the loss of sponsor Land Rover, and the withdrawal Les Trois Vallees from the resort stands, as well as the usual Snow + Rock stand in its retail village. The equipment and clothing company has been a long-standing supporter of the London show, but in 2012 had just a small stand at the event.
But VOS Media managing director Damian Norman is looking forward to the future. He said: “Having enjoyed a very successful media partnership with Telegraph Media Group (TMG) across our ski, outdoors and bike divisions, we are now delighted to be part of one of the UK’s leading publishers.
“I look forward to growing our existing events, publishing and media portfolio, whilst expanding into further complimentary market sectors that support customers and clients of TMG.”
The 2013 London Ski and Snowboard Show will be held at Earls Court 2 from 30 October to 3 November.
