In a ski season that has resulted in the soaring sales of ski helmets, two manufacturers have brought out revolutionary new models.

Carrera has introduced the world’s first foldable ski helmet. The “Snow Foldable” helmet has a flexible frame that takes up 20% less space when folded. It is EN1077 B certified, with a passive ventilation system — and even comes in four colours red, black, blue and white. There is also a premium leather/carbon version if you really want to go fancy.

The ski and boot manufacturer Atomic has launched its lightest ever ski helmet, at just 430g. The Mentor LF helmet uses impact technology that moulds instantly to the shape of your head on impact, and adapts throughout the day to maintain comfort.

The PORON® XRD® foam — also used in Atomic’c Nomad LF and Affinity LF helmets — firms up to form a comfortable, protective guard that will absorb up to 90 per cent of impact energy, minimising the risk of head injury and bruising.

The Mentor L costs £120 and comes in three sizes small (53-56), medium (56-59) and large (59-62) and four colours — blue, black matt, grey and white.

Both helmets have removable and washable linings, and removable ear pads.
