Two big new ski lifts opened this weekend in the States.

On Friday, the new Quicksilver gondola opened in Utah ski resort of Park City, connecting it with neighbouring Canyons Resort, making the two the largest ski area in the US.

On Saturday, the cult resort of Jackson Hole opened its new high-speed Teton lift, opening up 200 acres of terrain, half of which was previously only accessed by hiking. WTSS’s Abi Butcher was in Jackson to see the opening of the new lift and beginning of the resort’s 50th anniversary celebrations (blog coming soon!).

Park City and Canyons Resort will now be known as simply “Park City”, with a combined 300 trails, 41 lifts and 7,300 acres of skiable terrain.  The Quicksilver gondola is part of the $50million of investment new owners Vail Resorts are ploughing into the area.

In Jackson, the Teton quad carries skiers to a 200-acre area called The Crags, with three new groomed runs from the summit — some intermediate skiing as well as classic Jackson Hole steeps. The lift is the first new terrain expansion inbounds in the resort since the addition of the Bridger Gondola in 1998.
