SkiConnect promises to put skiers and snowboarders directly in touch with emergency responders

A new personal safety app has launched that says it will help skiers and snowboarders contact ski patrol and emergency responders immediately when they need help.

SkiConnect, from In-telligent, says it will help give skiers the right number to call when emergencies happen at major ski resorts throughout North America, Europe and Asia. The free service uses a lower frequency cellular network (ie, not reliant on 4G) to ensure it has more chance of working when connectivity and mobile service may be week.

Nearly 250 ski resorts mainly from the US, but some from around the world, are already loaded into the In-telligent app, so users can join the appropriate group for whichever resort they are visiting before they leave home. And if you have location services enabled on your phone, the app can tell instantly where you are and when you click ‘contact’ on your phone a call will be automatically initiated to the local emergency services.

While 112 is the European emergency phone number (and 911 is used in the US) help will often be summoned faster if you can bypass the central telephone base and contact the local team directly.

“Many ski resorts have their own apps, but most do not include a way to contact emergency personnel when incidents happen,” said Allan Sutherland, Founder and CEO of In-telligent. “SkiConnect makes it much easier to get help when needed by automatically connecting users to their mountain’s emergency services team,” said Allan Sutherland, Founder and CEO of In-telligent. “Searching the internet for the right number to call is the last thing someone who is hurt wants to do. Our new feature makes it simple to connect to emergency services and get help as soon as possible.”

In-telligent and SkiConnect is available for free on the App and Play Store for both individuals and businesses. For more information and to download it, click here.
