Many of the great Alpine cities celebrate New Year with parties and extensions to the famous festive markets. So how about combining a visit to the slopes with a night out in town?

Accommodation provider Interhome has suggested ideas for a memorable New Year’s break, where you can party until dawn and ski all day. One of these is of particular interest given its proximity to lots of ski areas.

Zurich is a vibrant city in the Swiss Alps, and within two hours (sometimes less) drive of some excellent ski areas. On New Year’s Eve partygoers head for the banks of Lake Zurich to watch firework displays, bop to the party music and enjoy the spices that mulled wine and stollen cake release on our taste buds.

When the partying is over, you can ski into 2010 at one of the nearby resorts such as Davos, Arosa, Engelberg … or Bad Ragaz even. Interhome is offering a one-room apartment by the lake from £573 for 7nts.
