Now Austrian ski areas close

Kitzbühel and several glacier resorts had opened for the season but have been forced to close again
Since I wrote the piece about ski resorts open ski resorts open last Friday, Austrian ski areas have been forced to close or postpone opening. This is part of a second lockdown ordered by the Austrian government because of rising numbers of people contracting Covid-19 – the lockdown will initially be from 3 to 30 November.
As well as the lifts and pistes, all hotels are also closed except for business travellers and restaurants and bars can only offer take away or delivery services. Sound familiar?
So that just leaves Switzerland of the major Alpine nations where skiing is allowed right now. Currently, the glacier skiing at Zermatt, Saas Fee and Engelberg is open and some weekend skiing is available at Verbier, St Moritz (the Diavolezza area), Andermatt, Davos, Laax, Arosa and Glacier 3000 (near Les Diablerets).
But Switzerland also has rising numbers of Covid cases, so how long resorts there will be allowed to remain open is anyone’s guess.
