Patagonia’s Worn Wear Tour kicks off

Patagonia’s “Worn Wear Tour” kicks off in Europe this weekend in La Clusaz
Patagonia’s famous “Worn Wear Tour” returns to the European slopes this winter, beginning in the French ski resort of La Clusaz this weekend.
The clothing manufacturer is renowned for its environmental credentials, the life warranty of its products and the ethical production of its clothing. For the past two years, a repair team from Patagonia has been hitting the slopes around the world making repairs to Patagonia clothing free of charge.
This winter, the third consecutive season, Patagonia’s wooden snow trailer housing technical repair equipment (along with hot chocolate and good vibes) will travel to France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany — beginning in La Clusaz, France this weekend.
But it’s not just Patagonia kit the Worn Wear team will be mending. In their bid to encourage customers to extend the lifetime of all their garments, the Patagonia repair team will offer free repairs on any brand of clothing, on a first-come, first-served basis. The team will also be educating skiers and snowboarders how to repair their own kit — whether that’s replacing zips, buttons and pulls or mending rips, tears and more. They’ll also be teaching people how to patch and re-waterproof shells.
“This season, let’s all become radical environmentalists. This sounds like a big leap — but it’s not. All you need is a sewing kit and a set of repair instructions,” said Rose Marcario, CEO of Patagonia Inc.
Last year, 100,288 pieces of clothing was fixed by Patagonia’s Worn Wear repair team.
Patagonia says: “Extending the life of any garment, through proper care and repair, is the single most important thing we can do to lower our impact on the planet and reduces the need to buy more over time — avoiding the CO2 emissions, waste output, and water usage required to build it. If we keep our clothing in use by just nine extra months, we can reduce related carbon, waste and water footprints by up to 30 per cent, according to the UK-based group WRAP – simply because we’re making and throwing away less.”
The European tour kicks off this weekend (Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February) at Place de L’Eglise, La Clusaz, followed by visits to Les Arcs, Lausanne, Verbier, Andermatt, Fieberbrunn — just to mention a few.
