Skiers in Breckenridge, Colorado are getting an extra-special Christmas today, with the long-awaited opening of the resort’s Peak 6.

There are more than 540 skiable acres on Peak 6, with 400 of those served by two new lifts, and its opening boost’s Breckenridge’s skiable terrain by 23 per cent.

Work began on the project in 2007, and its opening represents one of the biggest and most notable ski area terrain expansions in North America in the past decade. Peak 6 will feature high-alpine, intermediate and expert bowl skiing which is a rare find in North America.

The new Zendo Chair and Kensho SuperChair on Peak 6 are expected to open at 12 noon today, but the number of trails and terrain available for skiing today still depends on weather conditions and snow coverage.

“We couldn’t be more excited about being able to open Peak 6 this holiday season,” said Pat Campbell, COO of Breckenridge Ski Resort.

“This project has been years in the making, and thanks to the incredible efforts of the entire project team, we are poised to be able to open Peak 6 right on schedule, and deliver the holiday gift of a lifetime to our guests from around the world.”
