Australia's biggest ski resort, Perisher, will open on Saturday 3 June

Perisher ski resort in Australia is opening this weekend, a week earlier than traditionally scheduled thanks to fabulous early conditions.

While North America is still skiing away, the southern hemisphere is gearing up for the season and on Saturday 3 June, Australia’s biggest ski resort will open for the winter. Perisher announced the early opening at the beginning of this week, after 20cm of snowfall overnight and more throughout this week.

Perisher was taken over by Vail Resorts in 2015 and is now part of the Epic Pass. This weekend it will open two lifts on Front Valley — The Village 8 Express Chairlift and Ski Carpet No.3 will provide a good range of beginner and intermediate terrain for skiers and snowboarders. One of Perisher’s five terrain parks will be ready with a range of rails, boxes and small jumps to bring in the start of the season.

A separate toboggan area will also be set up by the weekend to cater for the kids and families on their first trip to the snow.

Perisher’s Chief Operating Officer, Peter Brulisauer, says “We are pleased to again be the first resort in, Australia to open and cannot wait to welcome our guests for another great season. The last year we opened one week early was in 2012, which turned out to be a magnificent snow season”.
