Powdair opens London City route

Powdair will fly from London City Airport to Sion — with Zermatt less than two hours away
The new airline that is proposing to fly skiers from regional UK airports to Sion in the Valais region of Switzerland has announced two new year-round routes — for which tickets go on sale today (31 August).
Powdair is due to begin flying to and from Sion from the regional airports of London Luton, London Southend, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester and Antwerp in December. The airline has now announced it is adding a twice-daily route from Sion to London City Airport, as well as a three-times per day service from Sion to Zürich Airport - operated on behalf of powdair by Adria Airways Switzerland.
Powdair hopes the twice daily flight schedule into London City Airport will offer a convenient route directly into the Swiss Alps for workers and residents based in central London, and that the Zürich route will offer a quick transfer for international travellers headed for the Valaisian ski resorts of Zermatt, Verbier and others.
Christian Schneider, chief commercial officer of Adria Airways Switzerland, added: “We are very pleased to be the partner for powdair on their new routes from Sion to London City as well as Zürich. As a highly experienced Swiss regional carrier we are delighted to start the cooperation and to see our new brand Adria Airways Switzerland in partnership with powdair.”
Pierre-André Gremaud, director of Verbier Promotion, said: “Adding the London City and Zürich Airport to powdair’s flight program is fantastic news for Verbier as it opens up great potential and makes the journey for many of our customers faster and even more convenient. Moreover, connecting flights from Zürich to Sion are a real plus for developing long haul tourism, as they may shorten the journeys considerably - also thanks to the powdair transfers that connect directly into Verbier from Sion airport.”
Sion to Zermatt is a mere 1hr and 40-minute transfer, while Sion to Verbier is a 45-minute drive as opposed two or three hours from Geneva. Veysonnaz and Anzere are the closest resorts, just a few miles from Sion.
Tickets for all routes are on sale now. Visit powdair.ski for more details.
