Start-up airline powdair has formally announced it will not be taking off this season.

The airline had been due to start flying from UK regional airports to Sion in Valais on 11 December, and has held marketing events promoting its service over the past few months at the Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show, Southampton Harbour Hotel, 640East in Canary Wharf and Ellis Brigham in Manchester and Covent Garden, among others.

On Monday 27 November, powdair announced it had suddenly lost its major investor, and asked customers to chip in and keep it afloat — without offering any financial guarantee and publicly warning them that their money could vanish.

This morning, after an email to ticketholders on Friday 1 December, powdair has announced it has an interested investor, but flights are still grounded due to a due diligence period and the need to create a “new, clear business plan with solid funding which could take up to 30 days to complete”.

According to powdair, the company plans to re-start services during 2018 with routes including Chambery and Innsbruck and says its customers “were fully informed of the decision immediately and full refunds are being automatically processed”.
