To mark the new season in St Moritz they don’t head for the mountain, they ski through town.

The annual St Moritz City Race takes place on 27-29 November and is a highlight of the opening weekend for the Swiss resort. Teams of three compete in a parallel slalom on a specially prepared piste that sweeps straight through the town centre. Racers corner the smart cafés, shops and restaurants, rather than the flags and jumps of your average mountain course.

In this event, the celebrities take part too: fashion designer and former ski racer Willy Bogner, actress and model Tanja Gutmann and former world cup downhill champion Bruno Kernen, will be joining in the fun.

The racing takes place on the Friday and Saturday with categories for families, children, ski schools being among the options. On the Sunday, the piste is open to all for tobogganing. In addition to the race, there will be a hefty programme of après-ski such as live music, fashion shows and food events.

St Moritz already has some skiing on offer on the Diavolezza glacier, but the Corviglia area is due to open on 28 November.
